Horsemanship Academy
There’s more to riding horses than just staying on.
Students work toward known, measurable goals in a supportive environment focused on experiential learning. Regular, private check ins with the student are used to cheer the student on as they develop into an independent horseman.
Goals are broken into color levels with specific skill checklists. All new students, regardless of prior experience, start at the same color level in order to identify potential skill gaps. The more skills the student is able to consistently demonstrate, the faster they will advance through each color level.
All students are able to move at their own pace and individual instruction is available to all students who need more focused attention. Skill tracks are broken into mounted and unmounted skills with some overlap. Unmounted skills include stable management (identifying lameness, first aid, feeding and basic care, documentation, communication, etc.) and ground work such as longeing, in hand work and conditioning.
Skill level advancements are celebrated monthly as a group during the classroom lesson. Students receive a certificate, a ribbon and a standing ovation :-)
Two Horsemanship Academy sessions are held each year - Fall and Spring.
Sessions are 13 weeks in length which includes one week for make up lessons due to weather cancellations.
Options are available for students to ride 1, 2 or 3 times per week.
**During weeks that there is a school break Pony Power program running, families have the option to trade their lessons that week for a spot in the Pony Power session at no additional cost.
